        <h1>What is Elsie Dee about?</h1>
        <br />
        Once we were past the initial question of  “Who is Elsie Dee?” (...and who knew Elsie Dee was square???) it was inevitable 
        we come face to face with this question. So just what is this all <font color="#006633">about</font>? The Elsie 
        Dee Project is all <font color="#006633">about</font> having fun and enjoying life. Well maybe 
        there’s a bit more to it than that... we like to believe in the freedom of music 
        while we go <font color="#006633">about</font> exploring new avenues of musical expression. 
        <br /><br />
        So what are all these songs with lyrics by dead poets <font color="#006633">about</font>?
        By presenting some of the most influential poetic works in history, we can perhaps spark further 
        interest in these great works and the lives of the people who created them. We are fortunate 
        enough to live in a time where communication with the world is literally at our fingertips. 
        As a result, our commitment to the freedom of music and the proliferation of great poetry can 
        extend from the artistic expression itself, to the global distribution.
        <br /><br />
        To a large extent the Elsie Dee Project has become <font color="#006633">about</font> the fans, the people who 
        comeback regularly to visit the site, download the songs and enjoy the music. You have to love the internet. Knowing there are fans 
        around the world in countries like Brazil, France, Ireland, Belgium, Japan, and of course 
        ‘our home and native land’ Canada, has made what this is all <font color="#006633">about</font> all the more meaningful.
        <br /><br />
        The next inevitable question is how does this music come <font color="#006633">about</font>?  
        The Elsie Dee Project is <font color="#006633">about</font> experimenting 
        with music within a predefined set of parameters. The artists involved each take turns 
        composing and recording tracks of music. The primary parameter of which is that what 
        ever is done, it must be the ‘lowest common denominator’ (LCD... get it?). That is to 
        say it must be the simplest thing that can be done to enhance the outcome of the song. 
        Other than that, you are free to do what ever you whish while it’s your turn. As a result 
        of this, when a song is started no one has any idea how it will turn out as each artist 
        can change the direction of the composition during their turn. Once a consensus is reached 
        that the musical ‘bed tracks’ are complete a poet is selected as the source for the lyrics. 
        Preferably it’s a poet who has been dead for a considerable time (a couple hundred years is 
        best), although we have been known to select more recent poets when it seems appropriate 
        for the song. Once the poem is selected it is crafted into the song (...yes from time to time we take artistic liberties 
        with the texts). And “Ta-da!” the composition is complete.

        We hope you enjoy the new music! These songs were created during the summer and fall of 2009 on Ile 
        Pariseau in Quebec, Canada. They were composed, performed, engineered  and produced by The Elsie Dee Project

      <h1>Quel est le style d&rsquo;Elsie Dee?</h1>
      <br />
      La construction des chansons à partir de matériaux simples – dans l’intention toujours de porter dignement 
      le nom qu’Elsie Dee s’est donnée – peu chargé symboliquement. Au lieu d’essayer de se démarquer par des 
      acrobaties stylistiques, Elsie part toujours d’une donnée conventionnelle (tango, rumba, reggae, etc…) 
      et lui ajoute des couches qui, elles, peuvent susciter chez les auditeurs de nombreuses symbolisations. 
      La harpe celtique, le banjo et la guitare steel pedal sont autant de références symboliques au monde celtique, 
      au western et au country. Le traitement littéraire, plutôt que de commander la mise en musique, s’approche de 
      la pure illustration. Puis elle finit par le choix d&rsquo;un po&egrave;me, qu&rsquo;elle se permet 
      parfois de triturer pour le rendre &laquo;chantable&raquo;. Parfois c&rsquo;est un petit bijou tout chaud, 
      tout pr&ecirc;t &agrave; devenir une chanson, c&rsquo;est le cas pour <em>Le Signe </em>la <em>Chanson de 
      Taliesin</em>; parfois c&rsquo;est un extrait d&rsquo;un long po&egrave;me - Soledad Segunda comporte xxx vers; 
      Elsie n&rsquo;en chante que xxx - ou un collage de morceaux de po&egrave;mes, comme c&rsquo;est le cas dans 
      <em>Moving awhile</em>. Le but d&rsquo;Elsie n&rsquo;est pas de devenir sp&eacute;cialiste de Gongora, mais 
      de rendre lisible, audible, sa po&eacute;sie, en un mot de vulgariser la parole herm&eacute;tique de ce ma&icirc;tre 
      de la langue espagnole. Dans son enfance, elle avait fait la m&ecirc;me chose avec Swinburne.
      <br /><br />
      Avant toute <em>re-culturation</em> globale &agrave; laquelle se sent appel&eacute;e Elsie, qui a des fans aux quatre 
      coins de la plan&egrave;te et qui ne voudrait en aucun cas les d&eacute;cevoir, il faut que chaque culture passe 
      par une &eacute;tape d&rsquo;<em>acculturation</em>, la perte &laquo;temporaire&raquo; de sa culture propre, 
      qui en ressort r&eacute;g&eacute;n&eacute;r&eacute;e. Elsie travaille &agrave; la propagation de la po&eacute;sie 
      avec des moyens &laquo;mondiaux&raquo;, transgressant donc par l&rsquo;usage qu&rsquo;elle fait de l&rsquo;art 
      d&rsquo;Euterpe et d&rsquo;Erato, les limites imaginaires de l&rsquo;art de Clio et d&rsquo;Uranie, s&rsquo;effor&ccedil;ant 
      d&rsquo;ignorer toute censure protectionniste, tout chauvinisme corporatif pour acqu&eacute;rir une transparence 
      stylistique qui lui donne des airs d&rsquo;artiste classique. Mais toutes muses confondus et confondue par la 
      complicit&eacute; des Muses, Elsie fait fi des cat&eacute;gories savantes. Elle a dans l&rsquo;avenir de la 
      po&eacute;sie une foi in&eacute;branlable, celle qu&rsquo;on dit du charbonnier; et du mineur elle a 
      l&rsquo;ent&ecirc;tement et le sens de l&rsquo;aventure.

      Despu&eacute;s de Haber arrancado la mascara que guardaba secreta la identidad verdadera 
      de Elsie Dee, Boyd Williams y Pierre Voyer se han entregado, en una nueva quijotada, 
      ese tercera fase del proyecto, la puesta de la pregunta misma que estaba quemando los 
      labios de muchos aficionados en todas partes del mundo : de que se trata verdaderamente 
      el proyecto Elsie Dee? 
      <br /><br />
      Se trata de une liberaci&oacute;n. Ya se acabo el estado de esclavitud en que estaba 
      aferrada la m&uacute;sica al emperio de las Letras, por lo tanto que segu&iacute;an 
      siendo bellas! Ahora misma se inicia la restauraci&oacute;n del arte inicial! Prima 
      la m&uacute;sica! 
      <br /><br />
      &laquo;Pero no se pone contradictorio ese proyecto liberador de la parte de dos 
      propagadores convencidos del poder ilimitado de la poes&iacute;a, de la urgencia 
      de propagarla en el mundo entero gracias al internet ?&raquo; dicen les detractores 
      escasos de Elsie Dee, que solamente existen en teor&iacute;a. 
      <br /><br />
      Si. Pero de esta contradicci&oacute;n misma nace cada una de las canciones de Elsie 
      Dee. Y ya hemos terminado la canci&oacute;n numero treinta, la s&eacute;ptima en 
      espa&ntilde;ol.
      <br /><br />
      A pesar de poner m&uacute;sica a las letras ponemos letras que tratan de contenerse 
      en las limitas del denominador m&aacute;s peque&ntilde;o. No se olvida Usted que las 
      letras que forman el nombre de Elsie De ese refieren al Lowest Common Denominator.
